“Dearly beloved, we are now the sons of God: and it hath not yet appeared what we shall be. We know that when He shall appear we shall be like to Him: because we shall see Him as He is” (1 Jn 3:2).
Christ said, “In my Father’s house there are many mansions . . . ” (Jn 14:2). This phrase relates directly to the processes of both illumination and deification – theoria – because, according to Gregory of Sinai, the words about several mansions indicate “the different stages of ascent and progress in the world to come; for although the Kingdom is one, there are many different levels within it” (In Met. Hierotheos, 2010, The science of spiritual medicine, p. 456).
