Yahweh said to Hosea: “I have multiplied visions and have likened Myself in the hands of the prophets” (Hos 12:19). This means that God the Father manifests Himself “not as He is, but as he who sees Him is capable of seeing, by proportioning the vision to the poverty of those who are seeing” (John Chrysostom, On the incomprehensibility of God, III, 3. P.G. 48, col. 722). Such holds true not solely for mankind but also for the angels “who have a vision of God face to face” (Lossky, V. 1973. The vision of God, p. 94).
